Young Carers

We know that many amazing young people in our community are Young Carers – children and teens (18 and under) who help look after a family member with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or substance issue. This could be a parent, sibling or a member of the extended family.
The responsibility of a young carer is wide and varied. It can include:
  • Practical tasks, such as cooking, housework and shopping.
  • Physical care, like helping someone out of bed.
  • Emotional support, including talking to someone who is distressed.
  • Personal care, such as helping someone dress.
  • Managing the family budget and collecting prescriptions.
  • Helping to give medicine.
  • Helping someone communicate.
  • Looking after brothers and sisters.
  • …and much more.

At our school, we’re committed to supporting young carers and want to make sure every child with caring responsibilities has access to the help they need.

If your child is a young carer and you haven’t yet heard from Ms Nichols (KS3 Pastoral Lead & Young Carer Coordinator), please get in touch: rebecca.nichols@olympustrust.co.uk

Let’s make sure no young carer in our community goes unsupported!
