Winterbourne Academy

Key Stage 4

Our Key Stage 4 curriculum is a chance for our students to develop their expertise in the subjects that support their future success and really interest them.

Key Stage 4 students (Years 10 and 11) all study a core curriculum of English literature, English language, maths, science (triple or double), religious studies and non-examined PE. Alongside this core curriculum students select three other subjects to study.

All students choose at least one further subject from history, geography, computer science, French or Spanish, but may choose to study up to three of these.

There are a wide range of other subjects and qualification types for students to select from and we offer support and guidance for any student uncertain about these choices or in need of more help. We know that students succeed most when they have the chance to study the subjects that they enjoy and find fascinating.

You can find an overview of the subject courses for our current Year 10s and 11s in the handbooks below. We will soon update the page with the option information for our current Year 9s.

Managing the right to withdraw

In line with the Education Act, parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Studies education. Any parent wishing to exercise this right should make their request in writing to the Headteacher.
The school will respect these decisions and discuss with parents how the withdrawal will be managed to ensure that pupils remain appropriately supervised. All Religious Studies teaching is delivered with respect for the backgrounds, beliefs, and values of all pupils and their families.
