Winterbourne Academy

Fundraising for Cancer Research UK

We are excited to share with you a new initiative as part of our school's House system. As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a sense of belonging within our school and wider community, we are proud to announce our participation in Cancer Research UK's 100 Squats a Day Challenge throughout the month of February.

This charity event will involve as many students and staff and members of our Winterbourne community as possible taking part in completing as many squats as they can each day for the duration of the month of February. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to not only challenge themselves physically, but also to come together as a school community, united in support of an important cause. By participating in this event, we are helping to raise vital funds for cancer research, which will support those affected by this illness both in our local community and nationwide.

Cancer affects millions of lives, and every donation, no matter how big or small, will help fund groundbreaking research, improve treatments, and bring us closer to a cure for cancer. By pushing ourselves to complete as many squats as possible a day every day throughout February, we’re not just strengthening our bodies—we’re strengthening our support for those impacted by cancer.

At the heart of this initiative is our desire to build a stronger sense of unity within the wider Winterbourne community. We want all our students to feel that they are part of something meaningful, not just within the school, but within a larger effort that can make a difference. This event provides a perfect platform for our school to give back to those in need, while reinforcing our PRIDE values and values of compassion, teamwork, and perseverance. Students cheered staff on yesterday at our official launch after school, with more challenges and squat themed events planned for the rest of the month!

We are encouraging all students and staff to participate and greatly appreciate the support you can give your child in the challenge, whether by helping them track their daily squats, offering encouragement as they work toward completing this task, or joining in the challenge yourself! There will be regular updates shared throughout the month so you can stay informed of the progress we’re making as a school. Donations can be made via the School Shop on Arbor or via our official donation page, and each contribution will be added to our weekly total. To view this page, click the link here. As we are a cashless school, we cannot accept any cash/cheque donations.

Cancer Research UK's 100 Squats a Day Challenge Sponsorship Form

To recognise our students’ integrity and dedication, House points will be awarded for participation in squatting events and for fundraising efforts. If your child would like to participate, please encourage them to join in, and if possible, consider making a donation to support this important cause. We have attached the sponsorship form for any students who wish to gather donations, with the option of gift aid. Together, we can make a positive impact and demonstrate the strength and generosity of our Winterbourne community.

Thank you in advance for your support!
