Congratulations to Winterbourne Year 11 Students!
Students at Winterbourne Academy have recorded a strong set of GCSE results, showing skill, ambition and determination in reaching the grades that they so well deserved. Nationally, results boundaries returned to 2019 levels and so students needed particular resilience and effort to prepare for exams in the context of their Covid-19 interrupted learning from earlier years.
There were some standout individual academic performances including Joel Tew with nine GCSEs at grade 9 and one at grade 7; Olivia Lane with eight grade 9s and two grade 8s; Alice Tanner with seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and two grade 7s and Anna Barlow, Daniel Rawling, and Sophie Winter-Alsop all with six grade 9s as well as nine grade 8s and two 7s between them. 35 students gained at least one grade 9, with 65 students gaining a 9 or a distinction* and so reaching the highest possible grades in their subject.
In addition to the impressive top grades, subject strengths for those achieving the grade 4 standard pass included 86% gaining a grade 4 Art, 82% in English language, 81% in English Literature, 100% in French, 80% in maths, 83% in music, 92% in photography, 98% in Spanish and 89% in statistics, as well as 97%, in biology, chemistry and physics. In vocational subjects, 89% gained the equivalent standard with a level 2 pass in Health and social Care, 81% in Media and 93% in Sport. Overall, 74% gained a grade 4 in both English and maths with 53% gaining a grade 5 in both.
Headteacher Jenny Cartwright said “Students deserve high congratulations for their results, especially in the nationally challenging circumstances. Progress for this cohort is stronger than it was in 2019, showing their commitment to success against the odds! My thanks to staff for all of the hard work, care and support which they have given to students to help them achieve these grades.”
Charlie Peake, Assistant Headteacher in charge of Key Stage 4 said: “I am really proud of the outstanding achievements of so many of our Year 11 students. This was a fantastic year group with a genuine determination to succeed. These efforts paid off. Best wishes to all for the future.”
Dave Baker, CEO of The Olympus Academy Trust said: “I offer my congratulations to all the Winterbourne students who have achieved the success they deserved in their GCSEs this year. Thank you also to all the staff who have worked so hard to support them. It is great to see the year on year improvements as the school community pushes onwards and upwards.”
