2019 GCSE results!
Once again, students at Winterbourne Academy are celebrating, with a significant number of grades well above national averages. The overall pass rate was an impressive 98%, with over 60% of grades awarded at 9-5 and 23% achieving the highest category: between grades 9-7.
57% of the Winterbourne cohort achieved grade 5+ in both English and Maths, a similar figure to 2018 and one which is likely to be considerably above the national average. At 74%, the English and Maths grade 4+ figure was comparable with Winterbourne’s headline figure last year, and remains 10% above the national average across UK schools. Boys did even better in this measure this year, increasing their performance in the English and Maths grade 4+ measure by 5% on 2018 results. Subjects that have enjoyed particularly strong results include Engineering; Media; Art; French, and Photography.
Winterbourne students also continue to score highly in the important EBacc headline measure, with 26% of the cohort achieving at grade 5+. Both boys and girls saw improved results in this key headline measure and expect to be well above the national average again when results are validated in the autumn. The school also continues to buck the national trend of a gender achievement gap.
There are some fantastic individual achievements this year, which demonstrate the talent, commitment and hard work of Winterbourne students. These examples include the following students who achieved high numbers of grades 8 and 9 (including Distinction*) across the board:
Alex Carey: 9
Nick Dight: 8
Heather Evans: 8
Dan Harper: 8
Fred Hawker: 9
Jack Simmons: 9
Megan Townsend: 8
Headteacher Jason Beardmore remarked “Well done to all Winterbourne students in the class of 2019. We wish them all the best for the future and look forward to seeing many of them return to our Post 16 Centre in September.”
